1.TheCoatingTexture苔质

透过舌苔可以隐隐看到舌体的苔为薄苔；

不能透过舌苔看到舌体的苔为厚苔
MoistorDryCoating润、燥苔：

舌苔干湿适中，不滑不润，为润苔；舌苔干燥，望之枯涸，扪之无津，甚则舌苔干裂，为燥苔.

Acurd-likecoatingreferstoalayerofsparsendbiggrain-likefurwhichisthickbothinthemiddleandontheedgeslikeapileofcrushedbeancurd,easytoscrapeoff.
苔质致密，颗粒细腻，称为腻；
苔质疏松，颗粒粗大、根底松浮，如豆腐渣堆铺舌面，边中皆厚，扪之苔质致密，颗粒细腻，融合成片，中厚边，贴面、刮之难去者，称为腐苔。
PeeledorPeeled-likeCoating剥苔、类剥苔:
Whenthefrontpartofthetonguecoatingpeels,itiscalledfrontpeeledcoating.舌前部苔剥落者，称前剥苔；
Whenthemiddleofthetonguecoatingpeels,itiscalledmiddlepeeledcoating.舌中苔剥落者，称中剥苔；
Whentherootofthetonguecoatingpeels,itiscalledrootpeeledcoating.舌根部蓄剥者，称根剥苔；
Whenmostofthetonguecoatingpeels,itiscalledlinguageographica.香苔多处剥落，舌面仅斑驳片存少量舌苔者，称花剥苔；
Whenlargepatchesofthetonguecoatingpeelindifferentpartsandthepeeledareasarewelldefinedwithprotrudingedges,itiscalledmap-liketongue.舌苔大片剥落，边缘突起，界限清楚，剥落部位时时转移者，称为地图舌；
Whentheentirecoatingpeelsandthetongueisasglossyasamirror,itiscalled"mirror-liketongue",themostsevereoneofall.舌苔全部剥落，舌面光滑如镜者，称为镜面舌；
Whenthepeeledcoatingisnotglossy,wheregrain-likecoatingorpapillaegrows,itiscalledpeeled-likecoating.
若舌苔剥落处，舌面不光滑，仍有新生苔质颗粒或乳头可见者，称类剥苔。
RealorFalseCoating真、假苔:
Ifatonguecoatingcloselyadherestothetonguesurface,difficulttoscrapeoff,seemsapartofthetongueproperandappearstogrowoutofthetongue,itisarealcoating.舌苔紧贴舌面，刮之难去，或刮之舌面仍有苔迹，舌与苔如同一体，苔似从舌里长出来的称为真苔；
Ifitdosenotcloselyadheretothetonguesurface,lookslikepaintonthetongue,easytoscrapeoffanddoesnotappeartogrowoutofthetongue,itisafalsecoating.
若苔不着实，似浮涂舌上，刮之即去，不像是从舌上长出来的为假苔.
2.theCoatingColour苔色
WhiteCoating:Thetonguecoatingpresentswhite
白苔：舌面上所附着的苔垢呈现白色。
YellowCoating:Thetonguecoatingisyellow.Specifically,itcanbelightyellow,darkyellow,andbrownishyellow.
黄苔：舌面上所附着的苔垢呈现黄色，根据黄色的浅深，有淡黄、深黄和焦黄之别。
GrayishBlackCoating:Thetonguecoatingisgray,grayishblackorblack.
灰黑苔：苔色为灰色、灰黑或黑色。
